Apologies for cross-posting
BirdLife International and The RSPB have launched a new website -
www.savethealbatross.net - as part of their ongoing campaign to halt damaging
longline fishing. The campaign will fund Operation Ocean Task Force which will
put conservationists on board individual longline fishing boats to educate them
in safe longlining methods which should reduce, even stop, seabird deaths due
to longline fishing.
The website includes information about albatrosses, the problems of longline
fishing, and the solutions proposed. Support is being given by a wide range of
famous people and their messages will be posted as they arrive.
Articles, diary pages and news will be added to the site and when the Volvo
Ocean Race, a supporter of the campaign, starts then there will be commentary
from the crew on board the boats as they pass through albatross waters.
BirdLife partners along the route will aslo be lending their support.
Support the campaign with donations and by telling others about it and about
the website.
Please send any written contributions for the website or messages of support to
and they will be considered for inclusion on the website.
