Julie,

I have heard that noise in spring before, a pair used to nest in a dry creek, just west of the Warrumbungles NP where I was the Manager, in the period 1975-1982. I always assumed that it is an advertising territory call. HANZAB calls it an "adult whistle call", "consisting of one downwardly inflected note... often repeated ...seemingly incessant series. More noisy at the start of the breeding season, once mate arrives, nesting activities begin and so calls heard less often."
