Yes - they only occur in the Americas. So the Greek one must have been captive or something else?

But the Hummingbird Hawk-moth is quite common in the Mediterranean!
 
They really deserve the name as the fly in the day and like the other hawk-moths hover and suddenly dart from one flower to another.  Wingspan is a couple of inches.
