I haven't read everything that's been posted on this, so apologies in
advance if I repeat anyone else's thoughts or suggestions.

It's a simple thing to set up folders in your Inbox, so, all birding-aus
mail goes to a folder headed "birding-aus". Straightaway, that sets aside
the birding-aus stuff, spam included, for perusal at a time of choice. It
also keeps any birding-aus posted spam out of the main Inbox or any other
folders you might have set up.

This works well for me. I have folders for regular correspondents and all
mail from selected specified addressees goes into the appropriate folders,
leaving the main Inbox empty for general correspondence, including general
spam.

When I decide to open the birding-aus folder, it takes a moment to delete
anything spam-looking or boring-looking, and I can take my time to have a
longer look at anything potentially interesting.

Of course, I still get just the same quantity of spam courtesy of
birding-aus as does everyone else, but I really don't think of it as much of
a problem.

Lately, I've been getting more about spam, than spam.
