Several weeks ago, in response to a RFI on this list, a number of list
members sent me very helpful info about searching for Chestnut-rumped
Heathwrens near Adelaide.
There are two other birds that I thought I might try to locate on the
same trip and for which I would again be very grateful for suggestions as to
where to search. These are Mallee Emu-wren and Spotted Nightjar. I realize
that the Emu-wren is found closer to the Victoria border and that the
nightjar is a mallee bird. I have the info in Thomas and Thomas and have
done a bit of web searching that suggests the emu-wren might be looked for
near Coonalpyn. Could anyone suggest more specific directions to (a) good
place(s)? (I probably saw the emu-wren several years back at Hattah, but
all I can say for sure is that a fuzzy blur flew from one spinifex clump to
another. Time pressures make going back to Hattah impractical on this
trip).
