A small group of Clarence Valley birdwatchers spent
much of Saturday scanning flowering trees between Grafton and Moonee Beach in
the hope of observing a Regent Honeyeater or Swift Parrot. Despite
large numbers of Noisy Friarbirds, Rainbow Lorikeets and Fuscous Honeyeaters and
smaller numbers of Scaly-breasted and Little Lorikeets, Little Friarbirds,
Little Wattlebirds, Noisy Miners and Blue-faced, White-cheeked, Black-chinned,
Yellow-faced, Scarlet and White-throated Honeyeaters, no Swifties or Regents
were observed. A visit to Ramornie National Park and State Forest late in the
day also failed to detect the target species, although Black-chinned,
Yellow-faced, Scarlet and White-naped Honeyeaters, Little and Rainbow Lorikeets
and Noisy Friarbirds were seen. I am sure that there were a few Eastern
Spinebills around as well. Russell Jago will be submitting the details to
the co-ordinators.
