In early July 2004, I counted approx. 900 Pacific Gulls at the Cranbourne tip.  This tip, however, closed at the end of June 2005.  So where will these birds go?

Peter Dann has been individually colour-banding Pacific Gulls at Phillip Island.  Also, Clive Minton and I have been banding birds with individually numbered readable aluminium bands (Txxx or Vxxx).

From previous recoveries, we know that first year birds move east from their natal islands to Lakes Entrance, or west into Westernport and Port Phillip Bays.  Some birds banded at Phillip Island have moved to Wilsons Prom. and to the Cranbourne tip.

So could everybody please keep an eye out for these individually banded Pacific Gulls of all ages.

Bruce Robertson,
