Yesterday, I spent a few hours in the morning in the Megalong Valley, Blue
Mountains (approx. 100 km west of Sydney
CBD). This is one of the most scenic and one of my favorite places in the Blue
Mountains. A photographers delight too.
Along the first few km of the Six Foot Track running west of
Megalong Rd were a pair of Scarlet Robins, Owlet
Nightjar (heard only), 7 Diamond Firetails, several
Jacky Winters, Brown-headed Honeyeaters, White-winged Choughs and a large flock
of Yellow-rumped Thornbills
(30 or so birds).
Further up the road towards Blackheath
in wet forest were Red-browed Tree-creepers, Crested Shrike-tit, Large-billed Scrubwrens, Crescent Honeyeater, Grey Currawong
and Gang-gang Cockatoos.
At a nearby apple orchard towards Shipley’s plateau,
there was an invasion of Satin Bowerbirds (50 plus birds).
A pleasant and a warm winter’s morning.
