Brown Quail get around, the drought probably has something to do with it at
present. There used to be a population living within the Randwick racetrack, I
haven't been there for decades, the central area has probably been mown and
sterilised.
Penny, my wife, brought home the fresh corpse of a male Painted
Button-quail on Saturday, it had been hit crossing Mayfair Rd. Mulgoa and was
intact. It's in the freezer, should I send it to the Museum? I've seen a pair
once previously on Mayfair Rd, which ends at fairly pristine bush going into
National Park.
PS, I've just trialled a Panasonic camera with 12x Leica optical zoom which is
the equivalent of a 400mm plus lens, 5megapixels, built in image stabiliser,
very compact and lightweight. Unbelievable pics. Also takes short
video and records sounds! Seems to be the ultimate bird recorder to
convince the cynics.
