I once observed an Australian Raven from close range as it painstakingly dismembered a nestling, bit by tiny bit, starting with the head and placing each dismembered part behind the loose flaps of the bark of a Melaleuca quinquinervia (Paperbark),

Gruesome but interesting.

A few minutes ago, I observed an Australian Raven outside my office
window (Russell, ACT.) It caught my eye because it appeared to be
carrying a small egg in its beak.

I expected it to break open the egg and eat it; instead, it flew
down to the ground, carefully pushed the egg into the crushed scoria
and covered it, then placed a stone on top presumably as a marker.
I hope its memory is better than mine, because I'm now not sure
which of the various stones on the ground is the "X".
