Having had a chat with Roger Potts and seen another photo, (thanks
Niven)
I'm convinced that the bird Roger had was a Hooded Monarch! The first
for
Australia! It was seen early morning near the barbecue area and he
watched
it for about 15 minutes before it retired into thicker vegetation.
About
11.00 next morning (Tuesday) presumably the same bird was seen nearby
by
Julie Bucholtz. Some concerns re actual and apparent plumage features
have
been resolved. Apparently there was just narrow white edgings to the
outer
tail. The grey of the back continued onto the nape before adjoining the
black crown and sides of head.
Roger will prepare a submission to BARC. Congratulations Roger!
