Hi folks,
Had a brief camping break with family to the above locations this week. Also
caught up with Chris Coleborn and his family.
Very dry at the moment though the vegetation looked in reasonable
shape, probably after the summer rains we've had.

Birding in northern WYPERFELD NP mainly concentrated around the
Casuarina/Callitris areas and some mallee vegetation along Moonah track.
Highlights were sightings of small numbers of Pink Cockatoos each morning
from the campground, and White-browed Treecreepers in pine country south of
the campground. These were found using a tape. Without it they were very
hard to locate. Nothing like Brown creepers!
The mallee veg was full of birds with the usual suspects. A couple of
Malleefowl mounds seen, one with no recent activity and one that had been
recently worked over .The centre was fairly filled in. Not sure what stage
it would have been at but maybe the big rain in February triggered a
breeding attempt.

A short visit to the Wymlet tank area of MURRAY-SUNSET NP was rewarded with
an unexpected encounter with a group of BLACK-EARED MINERS ! These were
found along the Honeymoon track west of Wymlet tank There were possibly
about 8 birds plus 1 or 2 Yellow-throated types with them. Had excellent
views of 3 or 4 birds which showed all the characteristics of Black-eared.
The legs were seen on two and did not have bands. ( Rohan, Chris will
forward further details to you).
After this excitement we ran short on time to search for Red-lored Whistler.
Our quick attempt was fruitless but great views of a couple of Striped
honeyeaters was satisfying (they've eluded me for some years now!)
