Interesting sight on our place this past weekend. A large python, curved peacefully on the ground around the base of a Silky Oak, in the last of the day's sunlight, was suddenly noticed by the resident medium-sized birds. A hullaballoo of butcherbirds, Noisy Minders, Australian Magpies, & Torresian Crows ensued.
The two crows, alighting in the Silky Oak, observed the snake, (which remained unmoving through the entire drama,) and observed the behaviour of the other birds. The magpie family members were dancing around the snake and divebombing it. This is what then appeared to happen:
After a time, one of the crows dropped to the ground, between the snake/tree and the magpies. He/she then made several attempts to drive the magpies away from the snake.
        Fascinating.

Cheers.
Judith.
