On the weekend I once again struck something that I would like to see if
anyone else has experience of. While near Myall Lakes (report to follow) I
came across a feeding flock including White-naped, Yellow-faced and Scarlet
Honeyeaters, Brown and Striated Thornbills, Grey Fantail and Silvereyes. I
also heard what I would consider the call of Brown-headed Honeyeaters at
least twice. However, amongst all the activity I couldn't see the birds to
confirm the ID. This is not the first time that I have had this happen (BHHE
call when only WNHE can be seen in a flock).
Looked up HANZAB and this makes mention of a chip call for WNHE, but nothing
like the staccato chip call that BHHE make. Has anyone confirmed that WNHE
can make a BHHE call, or have I just overlooked a small number of this
species in a large flock.
