Hi,

I have been investigating possibilities for a week long pelagic in the Otway Basin and have found a charter more than capable of doing this. They are very interested and I have suggested around Easter holidays 2006. This is a good time of year for seabirds and marine mammals in general but more importantly is also a calm weather period.

The vessel is licensed and comfortably berths 20 people up to 100Nm offshore, which with crew would mean we could take 12. It would also be possible to include a pelagic for more people to join on the weekend as the vessel is licensed to take 40 passengers out to 30Nm offshore. At other times the crew are content to spend the entire time at sea, which means seabirds from dawn until dusk almost every day.

At the moment I have made a general enquiry and received an estimated cost. For now it suffices to say that the cost for a whole week will be less than $2000.00 per head. I am trying to get the operator to organise this themselves and to do so, I will need no more than expressions of interest at this stage. If I get enough interest then I will pass this information on to the company and see if they can begin to formally organise something.

I am told that spaces would be on a twin share basis, and we would ideally need two couples as two of the cabins have double beds. The minimum number to make the trip viable would be 10 persons. The vessel is the SV Pelican, a 62ft catamaran. Have a look at the website www.svpelican.com.au.

Regards,

Simon Mustoe.
