Late Leaving Cuckoos.

Having moved this year I haven't heard many Channel-bills at all this season, but the last one at home would have been heard in early January. Since the e-mail about missing Koels went out I have kept an ear out. I am heearing them less at home, but have managed to still hear them at two locations in Engadine on the weekend (and a friend wanted to know how to get them away because they are still calling consistently at his place) and I heard another one walking up the hill to walk at Penshurst (all in southern Sydney) so Koels are still about at the moment.
Cheers,
Peter

Hi Birding- aussers.

A week or so back there was some talk about late leaving Koels and
Channel-bills. This morning I woke up to a Koel calling and yesterday
morning (31St. Dec.) I heard a Channel-bill call, roughly about the same
time.

In my experience both these species call less frequently towards the end of
their season (probably after their egg laying is over), and their calls
become less insistent.

Also, I never hear Pheasant Coucals call after Dec. some time around my way.
. Anyone care to comment?

Bruce.
