Hi, Everyone.
Sydney birders might be interested in this sighting today by Frank Hemmings.  Scheyville NP is near Windsor in north-western Sydney.

Dave,

If you haven't signed off from Birding-aus for Chrsitmas, could you possibly please forward this? Ta:

Scheyville NP 23/12/2004, saw two red-chested Button-quail, just south of Schofiled Rd. Female was just wlking along the track in pasture and nicely identifiable.  Obvious whitish-greyish and patterned head and neck with whitish eyebrow; rich orange-buff breast clearly demarcated from head colour.  This bird more closely matched the picture in my old Slater rather than the Pizzey and Doyle.  The female wandered along the track about 20m in front of me for about 8m or so and disappeared into the grass.  As I turned around I flushed a paler bird from the other side of the track, presumably a male.  I returned to where the female had disappeared into the grass and flushed her giving good views in flight as she flew away, also showing buff flanks.  I also heard two pheasant coucals calling, first one then another, in grassland near the same area.

Stacks of birds here and in the section of the park near the NPWS office.  Had hoped to get Speckled Warbler but dipped, however I was stoked to get the buttonquail.  If anybody wants any further details of where I saw them call me (0404293536).

Cheers

Frank Hemmings
