I searched the Queensland Parliament Hansard site and found the following information:

530 Email Petitions and 7,989 mailed Petitions tabled in Parliament on 23 & 24 November respectively; requested an amendment to the Land Protection (Pest and Stock Route Management Act) to legalise Ferret ownership in Queensland at pets.

Referred to Minister Robertson (Dept. Natural Resources and Mines) but no reply thus far. If you want to write to the Minister regarding this large number of supporters for ferrets as pets, his details follow: Hon. Stephen Robertson MP Minister for Natural Resources and Mines;
