Jim and others,
 I am keen to have look for these birds on Sunday if they are still about. 
Can anyone keep me (and any others) up to date with these birds. If anyone 
has success, particularly on Saturday can they please let me know. If they 
are still there Sunday I will be doing the F3 trip on Sunday morning.

 On November 22 Edwin Vella asked about the Painted Snipe that had been 
observed earlier by Hunter Bird Observers Club member Neville McNaughton on 
Ash Island in the Hunter Estuary near Newcastle, NSW . The Snipe have since 
been observed by other club members.
 A male and female pair of Painted Snipe were still present in Melaluca 
Swale this morning. This location is on the main road through Ash Island, 
roughly one kilometre past the bridge and adjacent to the  model aeroplane 
field. They were situated in grazed paspalum swamp about 100 metres  from 
the road on the right hand side . I scanned the swale  for about an hour 
before finding them. Good telescope views were obtained although they are 
still birds with shortish legs who live in longish grass.
