Dear birders,

A positive note from Gloucester - the Council has just announced another sub-division at the southern end of town, but it has restrictions on it.

No cats, only 2 dogs, no chickens, up to 12 aviary birds.. This is because we have been pushing for protection for our town cemetery family of Grey-crowned Babblers who forage in this area, and it is the second time the Council have made a decision that favours the birds. The first was further subdivisions on the industrial estate - two sites have been left uncleared as they contain good foraging habitat for the babblers. And the other good news is that this family of Babblers now number 12 - a new fledgling was observed being fed the other day, making 3 fledglings observed this season - so far.

But we still have a long way to go to get people to be responsible cat owners.

So keep up the pressure on your local councils - having an endangered bird in the area helps.
