Hi Alan,

You have misunderstood me.

I especially made note of the absence of Wattlebirds, hence questioned whether Koels would use Pied Currwongs or Noisy Miners as host. I am aware of the host status of Pied Currawongs to Koels. I surmised that in the absence of Wattlebirds, the pair of Koels would try to use Currwongs, or (less likely) Noisy Miners nests - the only choice available to them!

Hi Birders,
I was interested to read the note about the Koel Cuckoos seen by Jack
Shapiro at North Cremorne.

However Jack has it wrong about Koel hosts, Pied Currawongs are hosts for
Channel-billed Cuckoos, not Koel Cuckoos. In Northern NSW and Queensland,
the main hosts for Koel Cuckoos are Figbirds, Olive-backed Orioles, Noisy
Friarbirds and Magpielarks. In the Newcastle-Sydney-Wollongong con-curban
areas, the major Koel host is the Red Wattlebird, which in the the last 30
years is a relatively new thing for Koels, and it reflects how Red
Wattlebirds have become so common in urban areas. In more recent times,
Little Wattlebirds, common in coastal urban suburbs, have also become Koel
hosts. So I suspect at Cremorne, Figbirds, Little Wattlebirds and and
Magpielarks could be on the list of hosts for the local Koel Cuckoos.
