Hi All, a great morning at Mitchell Park this morning...I reckon this has to be one of the most productive birding spots around Sydney...saw 65 species this morning in about 2 hours...Heres the highlights:

Best birds were a single Powerful Owl bordering Cattai Creek about 500m from the track entrance (found by locating droppings first) and a single male Glossy-Black Cockatoo about half way along the firetrail.

Lots of Scarlet Honeyeaters - this year must be a bumper year for this species they were simply everywhere throughout Mitchell Park this morning, also rather unusual sighting of 3 White-Necked Heron on the swamp together with a single Intermediate Egtret (must have been plenty of frogs there today). Olive Backed Orioles were also common as were Sacred Kingfishers (seen + heard calling in a number of spots), Shining Bronze-Cuckoos (many calling), and Common Bronzewing (with 6 individuals seen in different locations).

There also seemed to be a larger than usual number of singing Common Blackbirds - these were heard in number of areas throughout the park particularly around the border of Cattai Creek.

Other nice birds like White-throated Gerygone, Dollarbird, Cicadabird, Wonga Pigeon, Fan-Tailed Cuckoo, Tawny Frogmouth, Eastern Yellow-Robin, Yellow-Tufted Honeyeater, Nankeen Nightheron and Channel-Billed Cuckoo were also seen.

Cheers
Simon.
