Thanks for your opinion, & I respect it but I can not agree, although it's
academic & we'll probably never know.I do know that what I saw had very red
legs & was much bigger then a Terrek.
I've looked at all my shots now & done some cutting & pasteing to join other
birds on the marsh at the same magnification (with a Godwit positively ID'd
& 2 x Great Knots? )
The size ratios are, on a comparative basis - Godwit - 39; Unknown Red
Legs - 30; Great Knots?/Grey Plover/G Sand plover - 27
These are roughly the correct size to fit a Redshank but way too big for a
Terek,at 22-24 cm & with "rather short,orange" legs according to my field
guide. I took some shots of Caspian Terns on the same day & the red of their
bills was to me the red of this birds legs.

Andrew Silcocks has suggested a more reasonable ID for the bird photographed
by Rob Ganly is Terek Sandpiper. It fits the size range better and in the
photo the legs do look more orange than red. I totally concur with that
opinion.
