What's to stop someone subscribing to birding-aus under a real-sounding, but
false, name?
How do any of you know I am John Leonard?
[Just by the way I have recently come across the problem of identity from
the other end. In another part of my life I am a poet and am poetry editor
of Overland; another John Leonard, an older academic, editor of Seven
Centuries of English Verse, a school anthology, has compalined that I was
usurping his name and reputation, particularly after a somewhat stinging
review of Les Murray's poetry I wrote for Overland. Being a literary sort of
cove I was more amused by this problem of identity than anything else and
politely declined his suggestion I call myself 'John Leonard the Younger' or
words to that effect].
