Some years ago we visited the Little Desert NP including a heathland
stretch badly burnt the year before. Every grasstree was in flower and
every spike seemed to have one or two Dusky Woodswallows feeding on it
between swoops after the insects. When they all flew, the flocks were
huge. They far outnumbered the New Holland Honeyeaters also on the
spikes. On the blackened ground all sorts of plants were shooting up,
notably Redbeak Orchids and a Leek Orchid flowering everywhere.
