Hi Folks,
The next stage of the Cairns Esplanade re-development has just been made
public in a draft form. This final stage will continue the foreshore
boardwalk from the existing infrastructure, completed a year ago, to the
mangroves at the northern end.
Of interest to the birdos is an eco centre and environmental interpretive
node at the northern end and a possible linking of the airport mangrove
board walk to the esplanade boardwalk. Overall this stage of the project
would appear to have minimal impact on the bird life, which does not utilise
this northern section as much as the southern section. The first stage of
the development has met with approval from the birdos I have spoken to, as
scopes can be set up out of the way from other people and the birds are
easier to see.
We will be monitoring the progress to its completion in December 2006.

Cheers,
Keith & Lindsay.
