Nice shots of the King Quail and BB Bittern. I have never really seen
King Quail on the ground before but have had some good flight views of a
flock at Pitt Town Lagoon (western Sydney) and other places in the
Hawkesbury where I have been able to see the black and white face
markings and the chestnut under-parts of the male.
You certainly did well with those birds you listed in your local area. I
hope to do the same at Prospect Reservoir which is good habitat for both
the quail, the crakes and BB Bittern

Today our local patch around Lake Samsonvale, SE Qld turned up the
goods, birding with Gavin Goodyear, Paul Walbridge and visiting British
birder Martin Wells on a damp overcast day (...at last!) we found some
cracking species such as Black-backed (Little) Bittern, Spotless and
Baillon's Crake, White-eared Monarch, Spotted Quail-Thrush, and Painted
Buttonquail. This was not all though as Gavin had earlier found several
King Quail feeding in the open near the shoreline of the lake,
fortunately they were still there when we arrived and I managed to get a
few reasonable 'digiscoped' shots. In 16 years I have seen only one
female King Quail on the ground....all others have been 'in-flight'
views as they were flushed.
