Greetings Birding-Aus subscribers

Two days ago we saw a group of three Channel-billed Cuckoos and a single bird
flying over Motupore island then along the New Guinea Coast towards the
south-east just as did the White-throated Needletails. We are having strong
south easterlies here at the moment and perhaps these birds would rather fly
into them than head across the Coral Sea. This might explain why some of them
end up in NZ - if they maintain their se direction too long before heading West
again to reach Australia.?

Anyway it is clear that not all of these birds have left NG yet.

Cheers

Mike
