Hello Birders,
Over recent years Striated Herons have bred along the Daintree River NQ. and these birds also develop the red legs as Alan Morris has noted around the NSW Central Coast.Breeding here is normally only in the Wet Season months of Jan-Feb at which time we see these herons on passing (floating) logs catching stranded insects. When the log gets out of their immediate territory they will fly up river about 200 metres to the next log.
