Gary, The other possibility is that the author is mainly interested in confirming that your email address is active and has a real person getting the messages ... for who knows what nefarious purpose. It is possibly safer not to reply to the sender in cases like this. Alert the authorities (as you are doing) and leave them to check things out. Syd
