Birdline Victoria Update No. 172
For the week ending: 15 August 2004

12 August
Two Brolgas sighted in the small lagoons north west of the Point Wilson
access road near the Defence Dept gate. Thanks David Brighton.

12 August
There was a Powerful Owl (with obligatory ringtail in its talons) in a
wattle at Wilson Reserve, Ivanhoe. It was in a tree over the bike track
running alongside the Yarra. Thanks Michael Mules.

11 August
One adult male Orange-bellied Parrot seen on the track (for quite a long
time) at the Spit, the bird had a red ring on the left leg. Thanks Dave
Torr, Grant Brosie, Nick Livanos.

10 August
The highlight of the monthly Edithvale Wetlands Survey was 8  
Bitterns (2 south side, 6 north).  Thanks Mike Carter.

10 August
A Black Kite over the Ararat-Willaura road, a few km south of Ararat.  
Steve Clark.

7 August
Edwards Point State Faunal Reserve - at the point there was a pair of  
Oystercatcher (one bird with a yellow upper leg band and blue lower  
band) as
well as 10 Ruddy Turnstone, 200+ Red-necked Stint, 2 Caspian Tern, and a
single Double-banded Plover in full breeding plumage.  Thanks Tim Dolby.

6 August
Rob Farnes and Peter Lansley found a beachwashed Sooty Albatross on
Discovery Bay. Thanks Mike Carter.

6 August
There was a Sooty Oystercatcher at Jawbone Reserve, Williamstown.

1 August
There was a report of an Eastern Curlew on a small swamp close to Lake
Linlithgow (~20km east of Hamilton in sw Victoria), thanks Steve Clark.

1 August
2 Shy Albatross were seen off Point Addis after 5 minutes of sea  
and 3 Rufous Bristlebirds in the carpark, thanks Vin Lam.

1 August
There was a Little Eagle amongst several Swamp Harriers at Moolap as  
well 3
Australian Bitterns and at Drysdale there were 2 Little Eagles, thanks
