Hi Lorne
Nowingi Tk runs north from the Old Calder Hwy and then west onto the new
Calder Hwy. If you are travelling from the south I would suggest turning
right at the Hattah Store and then left onto the entrance rd to
Hattah-Kulkyne National Park. Then take the first left and you're on the
Old Calder Hwy and heading for Warepil Lookout, which is a nice spot to
stop and look. Warepil is half way along the Old Calder. Turn right onto
Nowingi Tk and about 1km on is the proverbial intersection of Nowingi and
Konardin Tks (for mallee emu wrens). Nowingi Tk heads north for 10km and
then turns west for 4km and comes out on the (new) Calder Hwy at Nowingi
(which is basically just a railway siding).

One thing to be aware of, when you stop at the intersection of Nowingi and
Konardin Tks you are just 2km from the proposed site of a toxic waste dump.
Yes, it is right in mallee emu wren habitat. You could stop in at the
Hattah Store and sign the petition, Alec will tell you all about it! If you
were so inclined, you could write to Premier Bracks or Ministers Thwaites
or Batchelor to tell them what you think of the proposal:

Steve Bracks Premier

John Thwaites Deputy Premier, Minister for Environment, Minister for Water,
Minister for Victorian Communities

Peter Batchelor, Minister for Transport, Minister for Major Projects

Kind regards

Hello birdlovers... Lorne here...

Hope all is well all of you.

A few miscellaneous things...

1. Thanks to those who helped me with car hire info re. Perth.

2. Is Two Peoples Bay the best place to see the bristlebird, scrub-bird
and whipbird in SW WA? Is there anywhere closer to the Margaret River?

3. Are Rock Parrots easy to see in Port GAwler, SA? Can the places to
see them be accessed by conventional vehicle?

4. Nowingi Track - where exactly does it start? Does it come off the
Old Calder Highway?

Excuse my ignorance and thanks so much for any help.

Have a cool weekend all.
