Garnett & Crowley  (2000) put the number of breeding Glossy Black Cockatoos, in The Action Plan for Australian Birds, at 12 000 birds with this having a low reliability.  In short, no-one has tried to estimate the total population.  The Kangaroo Island population is estimated at 140 breeding birds with a high reliability rating.
