Hi Ricki.
It may not explain your bird but I left a friends place one day hitting a magpie soon after, on my arrival home there was a bit of noise from the front of the car, when I checked the magpie had lodged itself in the front and had got stuck. I released the bonnet and it flew off, if this happened with a truck on interstate travel this could explain some of these types of occurrences.
