Wildlife including
1600 + Koalas in wild, some regularly transferred to different colonies due to overpopulation. The rare potoroo can be seen on some trips. Sambar deer, Indigenous water rats, Introduced rabbits but no foxes, Snakes, lizards & echidnas. 230 species of wild birds including 33 species of wading birds plus the rare white bellied sea eagle, KING QUAIL, orange bellied parrot and many others Highest Pt is Mt Wellington @ 96 mtrs.
Significant Wetlands on Northern end under RAMSAR protection. Official discussions underway to introduce French Island and Western Port as part of a United Nations recognised ?BIOSPHERE? being an area where residents and Industry are encouraged to be environmentally aware and use sustainable practices. Permanent population approx. 70 persons, NO local government, no mains power, no made roads, no mains water, no police. Small Primary School, only with 11 Students Therefore no rates, people are classified Pioneers Island run by community group & Parks Victoria Find local movie times and trailers on Yahoo! Movies. |
