Folks,
Neither of the above exactly rare, but last Friday
only about my fourth sighting of Gang Gangs round home in the eight years we've
lived in Glen Waverley (eastern suburbs of Melbourne, about 20 km from CBD and
all the local neighbourhood highly modified suburban). Two pairs of birds
flying through calling - in silhouette so I couldn't confirm whether there
were coloured males or not. Then on Saturday, alarm calls from Noisy
Miners and others; large bird soaring away to south; grabbed the binoculars and
light morph Little Eagle! Circled a couple of times then sloped away
westwards with a couple of Little Ravens pursuing carefully. I've seen a
Little Eagle two or three times recently round Keysborough/ Braeside, maybe 15
km south of here, but there's woodland/ farmland down that way - this would seem
to be highly atypical habitat.
This morning three Crested Pigeons on the TV aerial
- just part of the local furniture now (maybe even better reception with that
little extra spike, compared to the Turtledoves?).
