Curtis - and yes: Last night I went to the BrisBOCA meeting and heard
PhD. student James Nichols speak on his research into the culture of
Bower Birds, particularly the Satin; he has seen that some bowers are
maintained into the winter, while some are not. We've had more rain
here this year than perhaps in the last five, but whether it's
related to this or to the maturity of the particular bird or what is
unknown.
James Nichols had much else to say besides and was generally
fascinating. His studies of the calls of Satins, and the
regional/environmental dialects (within one of the advertising calls
in particular) brought to light new aspects of this beguiling bird.
