Butorides striatus vs Butorides striata

Dutch Birding Vol 26 No 1 2004 page 49
"Naamgeving van taxa in Dutch Birding"
has a whole list of scientific name-changes including
several that occur in Australia.
Of course, placing Stilt Sandpiper in the genus
Calidris rather than Micropalama, (a change DB
makes), is open to discussion.
However, they change the ending of Butorides striatus
to Butorides striata (Striated Heron) and cite
David & Gosselin 2002 Bull Br Ornithol Club 122:257-282
'The grammatical gender of avian genera'
for making this change.
Anyone have any comments on this?
Can any of you with access to good library/university
resources get hold of Bull Br Ornith Club and check out
that paper?

Cheers

Philip Griffin
