Now we've really opened a can of worms!

Anybody from a government department, university etc wanting to do any spotlighting work has to obtain an Animal Care & Ethics Authority.  Interesting that this does not, as yet, apply to birdwatchers.  This is even more so when you consider that many people doing this work, under authority, are more aware and concerned about the animals well-being that someone who might just grab the strongest spotlight they can find and head out into the bush - there's been lots of discussion about this in the past.

Going further, how many people would be aware that to spotlight in a NSW State Forest you need a permit from State Forests, which itself demands an ACEC authority?  Chances are many most people spotlighting on NSW State Forest land are doing so illegally.

Yet more food for thought.
