Sightings

6 June
A Little Eagle was seen at Braeside Metropolitan Park (Southern picnic
ground), possibly the same one that was reported from the Eastern treatment
plant last weekend, thanks Giles Daubeney.

31 May
There were six Double-banded Plovers in a newly ploughed field on Granite
Rd. between Anakie and Lara, thanks John & Sue O’Malley.

29 May
At 13:40pm 29/5/04 a Peregrine Falcon dived into a dove causing it to bang
into the window it then landed on top of it and when Bell went out the back
door it took off with the other bird in it's claws Scoresby Rd, Boronia,
thanks Bell Clifford.

28 May
There was a single Spiny-cheeked Honeyeaters in Yellow Box and Yellow Gum
along the Glenmore Road at Glenmore and Rowsley, thanks Micah Kawalek.

27 May
There was a single Pale Headed Rosella in the northern section of Royal Park
Melbourne, thanks Nicole Spillane.

25 May
A Mistletoebird was heard calling in St. Kilda Road South Yarra, at the
Bromby Street intersection, thanks Micah Kawalek.

25 May
At Westgate Park there were 3 Spiny-cheeked Honeyeaters, 4 White-fronted
Chats, 2 Black-winged Stilts and 2 Black-fronted Plovers, thanks Steve
Davidson.

24 May
In a residential Toorak garden on Saturday 22/05/04 were Pink Robin
(female), Eastern Spinebill, Grey Fantail, 2 Brown Thornbill, 3 White-browed
Scrub-Wren, and several Silvereyes, thanks Steve Davidson.

24 May
The Northern Shoveler was seen at Werribee again at 115E Lagoon, Pond 6,
there were also  about 70 Fairy Terns offshore Kirk Pt., and on the mudflats
a total of about 300 Red-necked Avocets and the usual assortment of waders.
Paradise Road lagoons yielded 5 Glossy Ibis and 2 Cape Barren Geese.
Elsewhere on site, 17 Black-tailed Godwits, 4 + 1 Greenshank, several
Freckled Duck (first lagoon on entering off Beach Road), thanks, Simon
Mustoe.

23 May
Highlight of the Eastern Treatment Plant survey for May was a Little Eagle,
a Peregrine Falcon, 3 Spiny-cheeked Honeyeaters and 70 Black-fronted
Dotterels, thanks Mike Carter.

22 May
There were 11 Terek Sandpipers with other waders at Stockyard Point,
Westernport Bay seen by Graham Beal and other VWSG Members, no sign,
however, of the Franklin's Gull.

22 May
1 New Holland Honeyeater leucistic individual at Point Cook Coastal Park
(main picnic area) with a hundred or more normal plumaged birds. Also a
covey (~10) of Brown Quail at same location, thanks Rohan Clarke.

20 May
Geoff & Karen Russell saw 2 Australian Bustards on 20th May 2004 at about 2
PM in north western Victoria. The exact location was Telopea Downs area
north of Kaniva on Arthurs Rd between Chappel Rd and Murrawong North Rd.

18-22 May
1 Noisy Friarbird calling at dawn in O'Connell St, Kingsbury. While
Friarbirds do occasionally occur in Melbourne they are not very common this
far south, thanks Rohan Clarke

19 May
At least 40 Swift Parrots near the township of Moliagul north of Dunolly,
some just north of town and some seen just SW. Also 8+ at the Tarnagulla
cemetery, thanks Simon Starr.
