My only experience of an overwintering Koel in Sydney occurred some
years ago. I was visiting a well-known Sydney birder who heard the
unmistakable call and rushed to the balcony to investigate.
The bird called a couple of times but could not be located.
In fact the call had emanated from the television, I think in an
advert for butter.
It always frustrates me to hear many reports of Sydney Koels in
early September yet in the various places where I have lived they
appear to start calling in late September or as in the case of last
year, early October. I must be getting cloth-eared in my old age.
Yours is certainly an interesting report.

Hello birders,
It's 1815 hours (shortly after dark) on Tuesday 25 May and I've just
heard the unmistakeable calls of a Common Koel outside my home at
Glenbrook in the lower Blue Mountains. This is much later in the season
than I have ever encountered a CK. I'd be interested in any comments on
very late reports of CKs, and any records of them overwintering in
southern Australia.
