Another option for Windows, MacOS X, Linux, Solaris and FreeBSD
is OpenOffice.org:

   http://download.openoffice.org/index.html

It's a free(!) equivalent package to Microsoft Office, and is
compatible with most Microsoft Office documents (some documents
with macros and/or advanced formatting may need a helping hand.)

The download size is quite large (for dial-up users), but you can
find it from time to time on the free CDs included with some
computer magazines.
