Freckled Duck in Drysdale

Hugo's message bounced, so I thought I'd forward it and add my own bit!

Last weekend there were at least 200 Freckled Duck, and a few Shovelers and Blue-billed as well (as usual). There have been 50+ Freckled here for a year or more, with occasional reports of larger numbers. Hugo's 500 is the highest number I've heard quoted.

Hi everybody -

Just counted 500+ Freckled Duck at Lake Lorne, Drysdale, Vic (c.20 km =
ESE of Geelong), at midday today. While it seems an unusual sighting to = me, I am not familiar with the lake there and do not know whether this = is a regular seasonal occurrence (and I don't seem to be able to access =
the Birding-Aus archives for further info right now). I would be =
grateful for more birding info on the location, and on this species in =
the Bellarine Peninsula generally.

Thanks,
Hugo

within the general range of
the turkey.

Further advice re Superbs and turkeys co-existing, or not, would
appreciated.

I cannot answer question 2.

My observations lead me to consider that scrub turkeys feed mainly by raking
the leaf litter, but they do not dig into the soil as do Albert's Lyrebirds.
Confirmation or otherwise of this would also be appreciated.

TIA

Syd
