After the good results of the recce on the preceding week hopes were
high for some good birds for the BAYBOCA outing to Banyule Flats Reserve
in View Bank (suburb of Melbourne, Victoria). Unfortunately the
Olive-backed Oriole did not deign to put in an appearance (or call)
however a Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoo flew straight over our heads.
Three Tawny Frogmouths were seen opposite the golf course and a
Buff-banded Rail was flushed by a dog chasing ducks in the wetland. The
weather was fine with blue skys until the last half hour when it started
raining. The six intrepid people who had not been put off by the
weather bureau recorded a total of 51 species for the morning.
