It's always interesting to see what various birds are eating. Yesterday I
was at the start of the Newnes track at Glen Davis (in the Capertee Valley,
NSW) where there were at least a dozen Turquoise Parrots, including a
number of immatures. We noticed some of the birds feeding intensively on
one particular patch of ground, along with two Peaceful Doves and wondered
what the attraction in that spot was, so afterwards I checked to see what
was there. There were two species of Einadia (small herbaceous members of
the chenopod, or saltbush family) densely covering the ground. One of these
was bearing many tiny red succulent fruit, which I imagine would make quite
a tasty meal for a small parrot or dove.
