I just thought the orange (sometimes pinkish) colouration was
part of their standard colouration. I've seen this kind
of coloured Little Pied several times. Does it mention it on
any of the guides? (Im at work now so I cant check). I think
one of the Photographic Bird Books (the 10parter one which name
I cant remember) had orangish Little Pieds in it as well.
Vin.
The books referred to are the National Photographic Index of Australian
Wildlife series, with LPCs appearing in the 'Seabirds' volume. There are
three photos of a pair of LPCs at Goomboorian in Qld displaying a 'rusty'
discolouration on the throat and breast. No mention is made in the text of
the cause of the discolouration, nor is it mentioned in the textual plumage
description.
