Had a great day out today covering the area between McLaughlin's Inlet and Mann's Beach in Gippsland by boat, at mid to low tide. At McLaughlin's entrance there were 60+ Fairy Terns, many sitting on eggs, 50+ Eastern Curlew, 3 adult Hooded Plover plus 2 chicks, and heaps of Red-necked Stints with a few Curlew Sandpipers. Down at Mann's there were many more Curlew Sandpipers, about 75 Bar-tailed Godwit, and 50 odd Whimbrel. Right through the area there were thousands of Stints, lots of Pacific Gulls and Pied Oystercatchers, and near St. Margaret's Island half a dozen Sooty Oystercatchers. Just offshore there were unidentified Shearwaters as far as the binos could see. Duncan Fraser, Maffra, Vic.
