There were 3
Black-tailed Godwits in the second pond at the Austin Road
lagoons at Werribee and a Hooded Plover at Pt. Impossible,
Torquay, thanks John and Sue O’Malley.
Powerful Owl, was seen during the day time, unusually heard as
it touched the branches in its flight and Blue-winged Parrots both at Yellingbo,
thanks Margot Craddock.
At least one recently-fledged
Collared Sparrowhawk has been calling conspicuously in
Edinburgh Gardens, about 100 metres south of North Fitzroy Primary School for
the last month or so. The same observation was made at this time in 2002-2003
(at the start of regular observations at this site), thanks Paul
A male Leaden Flycatcher seen
at Warneet, Melways 142 G10-an unusual sighting in this area, thanks Robin
At least two Long-billed
Corellas have been heard near Mayer Park, Thornbury; the first record
in 13 months' residence at this site, thanks Paul Peake.
There were 6 Great Crested Grebes at Konongwootong
Reservoir in Western Victoria, thanks David Cameron.
At Lake Victoria at Point Lonsdale there were 4000+ Banded
Stilts, at least 50-60%+ immature birds and amid thousands of other
waders were 4 Red Knot and 2 Hooded Plovers,

At Westgate Park (about 5km West
of Melbourne's CBD) there were excellent views of Red-capped
Plover, Black-fronted Dotterel and Whiskered
Tern, thanks Alan Flack.
Highlights of the
Birds Australia monthly census of the Edithvale Wetlands were: 1 Magpie
Goose, 6 Blue-billed Duck, 1 Glossy
Ibis, 1 Baillon's Crake, 4 Latham's
Snipe, 2 Marsh Sandpiper, 2 Common
Greenshank, 2 Wood Sandpiper and 2
Pectoral Sandpiper, thanks Mike Carter
There was a Common Sandpiper at Albert Park Lake
this afternoon. It was in one of the sheltered ponds at the northern end of the
Lakeside Drive side, thanks Alan Flack.
There was a
Gull-billed Tern hawking over a small dam right next to the
Geelong Road near the Little River turn-off (on the left travelling towards
Geelong) and at the Treatment Plant - 2 Common Terns at Kirk
Pt., 1 Banded Stilt at the Werribee River mouth and 2
Marsh Sandpipers at Austin Road, thanks Greg
One of few sightings of White-throated
Needletail so far this summer comes from Avon River at Bushy Park in
Gippsland, where 100s were soaring overhead, thanks Duncan
A male Rose Robin was seen
while walking along the treetop walk at the Otway Fly, Beech Forest, thanks Ian
There was 1 White-winged Black
Tern, 1 Wood Sandpiper, 3 Glossy Ibis
and 4 Grey-crowned Babblers amongst many other commoner species
at McDonalds Swamp between Kerang and Koondrook, thanks Simon
A very recently-fledged, hungry but otherwise
healthy, Nankeen Night Heron was found near the corner of
Leinster Grove and Woolton Avenue, Thornbury - raising the possibility of a
breeding site nearby (perhaps along the Merri Creek which is about 300 metres
away at its nearest point), thanks Paul Peake.
were Southern Emu-wren at Coongarough park Anglesea and a flock
of about 35 Blue-winged Parrots feeding on the ground at
Anglesea & district Riding club in Anglesea, thanks Tony
There were 4 Hooded Plover at
Point Roadknight back beach, thanks Tony Trood.
Beside several dams in the Pine Grove Locality, Nth Vic, several
flocks of Plumed Whistling Ducks, thanks Chris
There was a Spotted Crake
on Sandringham Golf Links this is the first recorded in the City of Bayside,
thanks Michael Norris.
