There is a Sooty Oystercatcher  with a missing leg that  frequents the sandspit at the end of Pt Edwards, St Leonards in Swan Bay (Port Philip Bay Victoria).

This is the only Sooty Oystercatcher that i have seen around Port Philip Bay, though they are reported to be at Mud Island. Its appearance at the sandspit may be a result of its injury due to more suitable feeding condition for its condition???

The bird is heavily colour banded on its remaining leg, so i dont think that banding is responsible for its injury.

Cheers,

Peter
