A male Rose Robin was seen while walking along
the treetop walk at the Otway Fly, Beech Forest, thanks Ian Davies.
There was 1 White-winged Black Tern, 1
Wood Sandpiper, 3 Glossy Ibis and 4
Grey-crowned Babblers amongst many other
commoner species at McDonalds Swamp between Kerang and Koondrook, thanks Simon
Beside several dams in the Pine Grove Locality, Nth Vic, several
flocks of Plumed Whistling Ducks, thanks Chris Coleborn.
There was a presumably escaped Chestnut-breasted
Mannikin feeding 4 young in Buffalo, Southern Gippsland, thanks Yarden
in the new year in a birding fashion, Chris Coleborn sends us the following

Johnson Swamp - 4+ Australasian Bittern
Terricks Plains - 1 Plains-wanderer and 12+ Little
Button-quail including one breeding with 4 small young
Near Mt Hope - breeding Australian
On a farm dam beside the Darlington-Woorndoo Road, 12 km SE of
Woorndoo: 37 57 27 S; 142 54 03 E (GDA) 1 Brolga, apparently
injured: it held the right leg off the ground, and hopped rather than walked,
thanks David McDonald.
The Victorian Wader Study Group caught, banded and tagged, (orange
leg flag), a Little Stint at the Western Treatment Plant at
Werribee. It was in non-breeding plumage so will take some picking out among the
numerous Red-necked Stints. It is suggested that the best place
to look would be at the Austin Road Lagoons at high tide, thanks Mike
There was a single Common Sandpiper at K Road in
Werribee and Little Corellas at the nearby Historic Park, thanks Vin Lam.
A large group of around 20 Glossy Ibis were seen
at Lake Linlithgow (~20km east of Hamilton), thanks Steve Clark.
Manfred Ruff identified a Koel from its call
early this morning around Second Street, Black Rock, thanks Michael Norris.
